Investment Peer Learning Series

PFC Investment Roundtable participants are invited to join us for a comprehensive 6-part Learning Series starting in September 2025. 

The series is designed for investment staff and board members from foundations and grantmaking organizations seeking to enhance investment knowledge and practices to establish a more mission-aligned portfolio.

Following the completion of the six-week program, there will be two additional technical workshops offered in early-2026.

Program Overview:

The Investment Peer Learning program will be presented through a combination of mainly peer learning and peer engagement formats. 

This engaging learning series will leverage the expertise of PFC Members and Investment Roundtable participants who will provide valuable insights from across the investment spectrum.  

This program is welcome to both beginners and advanced practitioners, with the learning goals to enhance and improve on investment operations and governance practices; fill critical educational gaps in Canada’s philanthropic sector, and; advance participants’ learning, thereby increasing your organizational capacity.

Learning Outcomes:

By completing this learning series, you will be able to: 

  1. Expand investment knowledge while strengthening foundation operations and governance  
  2. Fill critical educational gaps in Canada’s foundation sector 
  3. Access peer-led learning leveraging expertise from PFC members and Investment Roundtable participants 
  4. Provide value for both beginners and advanced practitioners 
  5. Advance the learning of foundation staff and board members, thereby increasing your organizational capacity  

Program Schedule

Program Details:

  • Duration: 6 sessions every two weeks – Tuesdays from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM ET
  • Dates: Tuesday, September 16 – Tuesday, November 25, 2025
  • Workshops: January – February 2026, Dates to be announced
  • All sessions will be held online and will be held in English.
  • Session 1 (September 16): Lessons learned from 0-100% from different size foundations

    Explore real-world examples of foundations moving along the spectrum towards mission alignment across varying asset sizes, revealing key strategies and challenges.
  • Session 2 (September 30): The Rise of Mission-Related Investments (MRIs) and Program-Related Investments (PRIs)

    Examine how foundations navigate complex regulatory frameworks while strategically aligning MRIs and PRIs to advance mission and portfolio performance.
  • Session 3 (October 14): Unlocking/Activating Your Public Market Investments for Impact

    Discover how foundations can leverage public equities for measurable impact through shareholder engagement, screens, and thematic strategies.
  • Session 4 (October 28): Climate/Environmental Finance and Philanthropy

    Examine the evolving intersection of climate finance and philanthropy to scale solutions for environmental resilience and justice.
  • Session 5 (November 11): Supporting Indigenous & Underfunded Communities Through Investment

    Highlight inclusive investment approaches and community-led models that drive equitable development in marginalized populations.
  • Session 6 (November 25): Deeper Dive into Diverse Issue Areas to Support Each Foundation’s Unique Mission

    Facilitated discussions on tailoring investment strategies to reflect and reinforce each foundation’s mission across thematic focus areas.
  • How to engage your manager on due diligence and portfolio management + Topic to be announced

    Post-series Workshops: Two Additional Sessions (TBD – January/February 2026)

This series will be peer-facilitated by fellow leaders and practitioners who bring firsthand experience and deep insight to the table. Members of the Investment Roundtable will have the opportunity to self-select the sessions where they feel best positioned to contribute their knowledge, experience, and practice.

Program Cost

The fee includes access to all six sessions, two additional workshops, all program resources, and a robust learning experience designed to accelerate your governance goals.

    $1,200 for 1 person; $1,000 for each additional person 
  • PFC Non-Members:

    $1,600 for 1 person; $1,400 for each additional person
