From Jean-Marc Mangin, President & CEO, Philanthropic Foundations Canada

Thousands have been killed and hundreds of thousands have been displaced in Israel, Gaza and neighbouring regions since October 7, 2023.

The terrorist attacks and the on-going war have had, and will continue to have, a profound and devastating impact on millions of innocent people. The loss of life and the horrific footage and firsthand accounts of acts of extreme violence against civilians and children violate international humanitarian law and universal moral tenets.

Also, amid quickly spreading news, as well as misinformation, this conflict is exacerbating antisemitism, Islamophobia, and political divisions in communities across Canada and around the world.

The PFC network is comprised of people from diverse backgrounds with diverse perspectives, and we know that these tragic events impact many directly and deeply. Our thoughts are with all who have lost loved ones, those who have loved ones missing or at-risk, and those who are suffering or fearful – though we know that words at a time like this are poor consolation.

One role philanthropy can play is in supporting the humanitarian imperative, across nationality, creed, and politics.

PFC is sharing related funding opportunities that are recommended by members of our network, to help inform and support responses to the unfolding humanitarian emergency.

This page will be updated as additional recommendations are shared with us.

As always, please get in touch with me directly with any questions.

Jean-Marc
