  • Philanthropy and COVID: Time for Reflection and a Break

The last twelve months have called on all of us to pivot, step up and address how we can improve our collective impact as grantmakers, investors and partners. Responding to the crises has been transformative for many in the foundations’ sector, exploring and innovating how we can better support community-building and the ties that bind us in ways that are truly inclusive.

This work will continue as our world slowly emerges from COVID. This new reality is going to ask more of us: more transparency, more trust-making, more risk-taking, more innovation, more grounding in local realities but yet also more global.

PFC will continue to accompany its members in their journey through our weekly digest, Wednesday webinars, workshops, research and support of collaboration and communities of practice.

I will readily admit that we are also tired. The PFC team will be taking a mental health break from March 15th-19th to re-energize and reflect.

Personally, I will be reading two books that invite us to make a leap in imagination, to look back and forward with hope and optimism and to realize once again that humans can thrive in a crisis: Thomas Homer-Dixon’s Commanding Hope and Rutger Bregman’s Humankind: A Hopeful History.

We are privileged to be able to take a break. I encourage you to do likewise and to support your partners in taking a breather and in welcoming the spring.
