We are looking forward to working with François Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, and with Wayne Long, Secretary of State (Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions). The responsibilities in these portfolios are fundamental to the health and integrity of Canada’s foundations and wider non-profit and charity ecosystem. This is a time for creative leadership and bold action to build a future that not only serves the interests of all Canadians but also inspires our collective progress and prosperity. We welcome Prime Minister Carney’s reminder to Canadians on election night of the value of bringing together labour, business, and civil society to advance the nation-building investments we need to transform our economy. In this moment, we can’t forget this truth: a strong democratic nation requires a strong civil society, and non-profits and charities, including foundations, are at its heart. Canada’s foundations grant more than $10B annually to charities and social impact initiatives, and they steward $135B in assets. Their work centres on Canadian values of compassion and generosity. Foundations and their partners exist to help Canadians in taking care of one another, through community programs, addressing critical social issues, and investing in our economy. We look forward to working together on actioning bright, bold ideas that align with our mutual priorities, including: Modernizing our charity regulatory and tax system to ensure charities can operate effectively and meet the needs of Canadians Catalysing co-investment on nation-building social impact priorities including clean energy and affordable housing PFC stands ready to partner with the new government towards real-world change and stronger Canada that works for everyone.
