Calgary PFC Reunion & Book Launch

We are delighted to be returning to Alberta, after a lengthy absence through the pandemic, and are looking forward to our first luncheon gathering on May 5!

Please join us and our generous hosts at the Calgary Foundation, where we invite you to come reconnect, exchange ideas and updates, and celebrate Hilary Pearson’s new book, From Charity to Change.

Program

11 AM-12 PM: A brief roundtable discussion between fellow PFC members on updates and new approaches on some current themes, followed by an opportunity to exchange ideas and news within the group.
12-1:30 PM: Lunch and book launch for Hilary Pearson’s new book, From Charity to Change, including a discussion and Q&A moderated by Mary Rozsa (Chair of PFC member Rozsa Foundation).

This event is open to Board and senior staff of PFC members based in Alberta, as well as foundations strongly considering membership.

Aviv Milgram

Director, Member Engagement & Communications

Aviv joined our team in January 2023 to lead PFC’s integrated member engagement and communications strategies and activities, in support of its advocacy, collaboration, and learning goals.

Coming from a background in both the philanthropic and non-profit sectors, Aviv’s experiences range from grants management and operations to directing strategic initiatives and stakeholder engagement. Her involvement has spanned from national philanthropy addressing community resilience, Indigenous reconciliation, and climate change, to local Montreal-based arts, culture, and heritage work in the museum sphere.

Aviv holds a BA from McGill University and an MA in Religion in Global Politics from SOAS, University of London.

Liza Goulet

Director, Member Relations and Research

Liza is Director of Member Relations & Research. In this role she is responsible for member relationship strategies and management, as well sector research on topics of interest to members in philanthropy, foundation management and grant making practice.

Her career has spanned the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Early in her career she worked in Africa with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as Coordinator of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives which focused on Rwandan women and children. She was Managing Director of The Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children and then researcher at the Senate of Canada working on the promotion, ratification, and implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Liza has a BA in Communications and a bilingual graduate degree in International Development and Cooperation from the University of Ottawa, and has completed PhD courses at the University of Victoria in BC.

Jean-Marc Mangin

President & CEO

Jean-Marc has been President & CEO of Philanthropic Foundations Canada since July 2019. He is energized by foundations working together to strengthen the common good.

Prior to PFC, Jean-Marc led a renewal process of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest national organization of Canadian researchers and scholars as its Executive Director.

Over a 25 year career, he has served with the UN, NGOs and the Canadian Government in responding to global humanitarian disasters and development challenges. As CUSO Executive Director, he led a merger with VSO-Canada, and he was the first Executive Director of Global Call for Climate Action, a cross-sector civil society initiative supporting transformational change to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

Born in Manitoba, raised in Quebec, educated in BC and Ontario, he holds an MA in Political Sciences and Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto.
